Here are a few tips to keep your Apple computer healthy:
1) If you have a MacBook or MacBook Pro, always wait until the lights turn completely off before you pick up the laptop and move it around. If the lights are on, the hard drive is still spinning and can take damage if moved while powered on.
2) Do Apple updates as soon as they are available and check them manually once per week through the “Apple” menu and clicking “Software Update”.
3) Take it in to the professionals once per year to have it looked over and maintained. Dust and lint plugs cooling vents and the computer takes on general wear and tear. A professional can tell if the hard drive is failing and if caught soon enough, your data can be saved before it’s too late.
4) ALWAYS make backups of your important data. Data recovery prices can be expensive. Backing up can be as simple as plugging in a USB thumb-drive and then just copy and paste your files. There are also applications that can perform automatic backups. It can’t be stressed enough how important backing up your data is. Whether it’s pictures of your newborn or prototype plans from your company, you want to have a backup.
